ZenBill

Privacy policy

Your bills stay on your phone.

ZenBill was built so that there is nothing to collect. This page spells out what that means in plain language, including the few places where data leaves the app and why.

Effective September 1, 2026 · Applies to the ZenBill app for iPhone

What the app stores, and where

ZenBill keeps the information you type into it: bill names, categories, amounts, due dates, how often each bill repeats, what you have paid or skipped, your paycheck schedule and take-home amount if you enter one, and your settings. All of it lives in the app's private storage on your phone.

Your phone may include that storage in the backups it makes to iCloud or to a computer. Those backups are managed by Apple and by your own device settings, not by us.

What we do not do

Apart from confirming your Pro purchase (see below), the app does not send anything over the internet.

Reminders

Bill reminders are scheduled on your phone using iOS notifications. The reminder text is generated on the device and is never sent to a server. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app's settings or in iOS Settings.

Face ID and the app lock

If you turn on the app lock, ZenBill asks iOS to verify you with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. The app only learns whether the check succeeded. Your biometric data is handled entirely by Apple's system and is never available to the app.

The home-screen widget

The widget shows a short summary, such as what is due next and how much is left this month. The app writes that summary into shared storage on your phone that only ZenBill and its widget can read. It does not leave the device.

Receipts and the camera

If you photograph a receipt, the photo is saved in ZenBill's private folder on your phone, not in your Photos library, and only the app can read it. The text on the receipt is read by your iPhone itself, using Apple's built-in text recognition, to guess the store, date and total. Nothing is uploaded and no outside service sees the photo or the text. Camera and photo-library access are asked for the first time you use them, and you can revoke either in the iPhone Settings app.

Backups you export

You can export a backup file from Settings. That file contains all of your bill data and your receipt photos in a readable format, and you choose where it goes through the iOS share sheet: a file on your phone, a cloud drive, an email, anywhere. Anyone who can open that file can read it, so keep it somewhere you trust. Restoring a backup reads a file you pick and replaces what is in the app.

The Pro purchase

ZenBill Pro is a one-time purchase made through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card or bank details. To confirm that a purchase is valid and to restore it on a new phone, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-verification service. RevenueCat receives a random identifier for your app installation and the App Store receipt. It does not receive your name, email, or anything you enter in the app.

See Apple's privacy policy and RevenueCat's privacy policy for how they handle purchase data.

Deleting your data

Delete any bill inside the app to remove it and its history. Delete the app to remove everything at once. Because nothing is stored on our side, there is nothing for us to delete and no request you need to send.

Children

ZenBill is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling data differently, this page will change to say so, along with the date at the top. Any change that involved sending your information off your phone would also be explained inside the app before it happened.
